Girls Football

At Hornsby Berowra Eagles we have an ongoing commitment to grow & support girls football from Auskick right through the junior football grades. Girls football definitely is growing & we are seeing this with the consistent growth in our playing numbers year on year. The playing options for girls at the club are as follows.

Auskick

Girls aged 4-7* are welcome & encouraged to join our Auskick program, which runs at Rofe Park every Sunday morning through the football season. The girls generally complete activities & play games in small groups of other girls of similar age. It is known that keeping girls together, even from an early age, increases participation and enjoyment. We have an ever growing number of girls in our Auskick program – we had 25 in 2024 & anticipate more in 2024. We accept Auskick registrations right through the football season. * we are able to accommodate girls turning 8 in 2025 to participate in our Auskick program, although would encourage the majority of these girls to consider participating in a team (see below). Girls Junior Football Teams

For girls in the junior football teams, the girls competitions in Sydney run in under 9 (effectively combined u8/u9 or even u7s if keen), under 11 (u10/u11), under 13 (u12/u13), under 15 (u14/u15) & under 17 (u16/u17) age groups, with games played on a Sunday. The age group for your daughter, is the age in which she turns in the current calendar year. As a club, we have entered into an alliance with 2 other local junior football clubs, namely Westbrook & Pennant Hills junior football clubs, to form the North West Lightning! The benefit of having an alliance such as this is that we have the depth of players & coaches, as well as the support of 3 fantastic junior football clubs. With the girls teams being formed from players from 3 junior football clubs, training & games are typically shared between the home grounds of the 3 clubs forming the alliance.

In 2024, the North West Lightning alliance fielded 2 x u9 teams, 2 x u11 teams, 2 x u13 teams, 2 x u15 teams & 2 x u17 teams, and we intend on similar in 2025. All of the North West Lightning teams trained once a week on a Wednesday in 2024 – details of 2025 training is still TBC.

Mixed Junior Football Teams

Girls also have the option of joining one of our Hornsby Berowra Eagles junior football teams and playing along with boys of the same age. This is possible only up until u12s.

Number of girls playing junior football & Registration Information

In 2024, Hornsby Berowra Eagles had 58 girls register and participate in the various North West Lightning teams (& 1 opting to play in a mixed Hornsby Berowra Eagles junior team). This represented an increase of 32% compared to 2023 in girls registering through our club.

Girls football fees for the 2025 season are $225, with an early bird rate of $200 (until 9 Feb 2025).
