Hornsby Berowra Eagles U10
Match Report round 7, Saturday 20 May
HBE U10 Blue v HBE Red
The Hornsby U10 derby between the Blues v Reds.
This week’s game was held under lights on Saturday night at the Eagles nest Rolfe Park. A clear evening for footy despite the predicted inclement weather set the cauldron for the club derby between the U/10 Blues vs Reds. The reds started the game on fire with their additional height and speed kicking five goals in the first half. Some terrific tackling and pressure in the back line from Jake, Ethan and Jack managed to stop the bleeding prior to half time. The in and under work from Raeke, Nick and Bailey turned the tide just prior to half time. Some excellent marks were taken around the ground by Aaron, Jack and Cameron allowed the blues to make their way back into the game.
A stern half time talk from the coach kicked the boys into gear for the 2nd half and the effort displayed in the 3rd quarter by the blues was exceptional. Zander, Myles and Nick fought their hearts out in the middle of the ground whilst Ethan and Jake started driving the offensive comeback setting up Cameron and Bailey down the wings and into the forward line. Lucas produced a spectacular goal with a side step and shimmy to break free and kick a goal from 25m out. The blue boys were on the way back.
The last quarter was terrific with the blues keeping the reds at bay with continued pressure from Raeke, Myles, Nick and Cameron and kept the opposition goal less for the 2nd half. Jake and Ethan managed to match strides with a couple of reds players-Billy, Riley and Matthew whom showed they are very talented junior footballers. The skill and team work displayed by both sides sets the Hornsby Eagles footy club up as a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
All the hard work at training is now starting to pay off for the Blues as the team work practise and general skills are definitely on the improve. This week’s man of the match award was won by the player that tackled and marked all night, congratulations Raeke Laird on a fantastic performance.
