Hornsby Berowra Eagles Under 12
Matche Report round 7, Saturday 20 May
HBE Under 12 v North Ryde U12
Round 6 was the U12s only night game of the season and Rofe Park presented a purler with the mild night under lights providing a great setting for the game vs North Ryde Dockers.
The first quarter was a tight encounter with the Hornsby Berowra Eagles playing tight contested football, takling with gusto against their physically larger competitors. Zac kicked the 1st goal of the quarter and Jack was a rock in defence taking 3 contested marks: HBE 1-0-(6) to Dockers 2-1-(13)
The Dockers took control for much of the 2nd quarter, but it was not to last for long: HBE 1-0-(6) Dockers 4-2-(26) at the half.
The Third quarter commenced with a new look HBE, applying much pressure to their opponents. The team work, takling and precision passes stepped up. Jacob’s run with the ball from defence to the forward line was a highlight, and set the tone that HBE could still win. HBE 1-0-(6) Dockers 5-4-(34).
Down 28 points at the 3rd quarter break, the coaches words and the U12’s determination, highlighted that this game was still winnable. HBE put on a treat for the parents and supporters with their strong team play, and the spirit was in full show. Zac was a live wire up forward, kicking two goals, with Jacob kicking 1. Jack finished the game just as he started, as a rock in defence and Tom played his best quarter with his run and tackles. HBE 4-0-(24) Dockers 6-4-(40)
Some key takeaways, the HBE U12s have come a long way against their opponent, the Dockers. In U11’s HBE had the mercy rule applied at half time in round 3, and at 3 quarter in round 9 last year. This year they lost by 46 points in round 1, and fast forward to round 7, and they only lost by 14 points. With another 5 minutes of the game, HBE would have run over the top of the Dockers. The HBE U12s have come a long way, and that is evidenced for all to see with their improvement, the Dockers will be fearful next time we meet. Well done HBE U12s, you are showing true spirit.
