Hornsby Berowra Eagles Under 13 Div 1
Match Report round 7, Sunday 21 May
Northern Lights 13 Div 1 v St Ives
Yet another warm and sunny autumn day greeted the team and the lads all looked ready and raring to go.
From the off the boys set the tempo of the game with some solid ball movement by hands and strong tackling resulting in an early and impressive goal from Patrick, with continued marks from Oscar and Lachlan the points continued with behinds from Blade & Jack. Tom K changed the pace of the quarter with some great link up work with Oscar. Jasper awarded a free kick with St Ives getting a touch for another 1 point. The momentum from the team continued and this was rewarded late in the quarter with the second goal from Patrick.
Northern Lights (2.6 – 18) – St Ives 0
The boys started the 2nd quarter with the same drive and focus as they finished the first. Some decisive defensive work from Ethan preventing what may have been St Ives first goal. The midfield were moving the ball down the park well with Tom K Blade & Daniel linking up well and being rewarded with two great goals from Tom K. Daniel showing some accurate kicking and Jack picking up a great mark in front of goal the 6-pointer touched on the line for another behind. Another strong link up was rewarded with a mark taken by Jack another goal just as the hooter sounded.
A solid first half performance from all the boys.
Northern Lights (5.9 – 39) – St Ives 0
Despite the half time score St Ives continued to battle across all areas the park and prevented the free flowing footy we had seen during the first half, some good link up play with Noah and Christian Tom D and Jonathan could not be converted to points on the board. St Ives with some solid attacking were fully deserving of the goal and behind they put on the score board during Q3. It was a physical contest with Josh moving the ball well retaining possession and frustrating St Ives late into the 3rd quarter.
Northern Lights (5.10 – 40) – St Ives (1.1 – 7)
Like that of the 3rd period the defence from both teams were put to work early keeping the scoring to a minimum in the final quarter. Strong contesting from William, Lachlan and Jasper holding off 3 tackles to move the ball out of the danger zone. St Ives’ persistence did pay off adding another goal to their tally mid way through the quarter. As the quarter continued St Ives was collecting more of the ball but points were becoming more difficult to get with continued pressure from Josh T and Christian breaking down any forward attack. Final whistle blows to end a well fought and deserved win.
Northern Lights (5.11 – 41) – St Ives (2.1 – 13)
