Round 7 Northwest Lightning U15YG

Northwest Lightning Under 15 Youth Girls

Match Report round 7, Sunday 21 May

Northwest Lightning U15YG Div 1 (3.10.28) v East Sydney Bulldogs U15YG Div 1 (6.9.45)

Today we were playing 2 down and no interchange against an opposition with 3 on the interchange bench so they were always going to have fresh legs when needed.

The first quarter saw us take to the park slowly while we summed up the opposition allowing them to get a couple of easy goals to start with. Even though we displayed some good strong defence we just could not get enough hands on with our tackling. We played most of this quarter in our own half.

The second quarter allowed us to get back into the game a little with a goal kicked by Raquel and 3 behinds by Madi F. We still managed to allow their forwards to have a pick nick in front of our goals and they increased their lead out to 39 while we only managed to hit 9.

The Third quarter was a real arm wrestle with only behinds being kicked by both sides, we kicked 3 and the opposition kicked 4. We were starting to get a bit more control on the game with some really great tackling made by Bailey, Kim, Madi F, Ange and Eve. Both sides showed a lot of determination in ball contests and it got tough out there.

The final quarter saw us step up and take control, we kept the opposition scoreless and we had goals kicked by both Ange and Madi F. The score line looked a little more respectable now and showing our dominance in the last quarter. It was a great effort continued by Bailey, Emma, Madi F and Kim with solid contest and tacking even when they looked like they were out of fuel. Emily shone in our backs keeping the ball out the goal area on lots of occasions.

Overall the girls played well even though they had to play against a side that certainly looked fresher then they when they walked off the park. Hold your heads up high it was a gallant effort.
