Round 5 of the season was Community Umpire Week, a week in which we celebrated and recognised our umpires, as well as highlighted the benefits of umpiring to our club community and encouraging people to get involved with this aspect of the game.

At games across the weekend our teams celebrated and recognised the umpires of their games in a variety of ways from creating guards of honour as the umpires ran on, a round of applause prior to the start of the game or a special 3 cheers for the umpires at the end of the game. Thank you to all of the umpires! Thank you to all of our teams for enthusiastically getting behind these activities and recognising our umpires.

Additionally, as part of Community Umpire Round, Tara Coopman (one of our HBE affiliated umpires) was chosen as 1 of only 4 junior Community umpires to take part in an amazing experience at the SCG on the weekend at the Swans v Freo match!

Tara had the following to say about the experience:
“I was one of 4 Sydney umpires to represent NSW Community Umpire Round on Saturday at the SCG. I had a totally awesome experience that I will never forget. To be on the SCG with professional umpires and players was an absolute privilege. After pre game warm up and got to umpire Auskick at half time and I was even spotted by a few friends in the crowd. I encourage all people thinking of umpiring to give it a go as it’s a lot of fun”.
